Light A Candle for Victims of Domestic Violence So with the help of Beauty Sales Representative Melissa McGuire, 28, (also her sister) she is assisting with promoting a fundraiser, started by the Avon Foundation, to encourage people from the east coast to the west coast to speak out against domestic violence. “Supporters would not have to attend an event, march or anything else except donate their dollars to a candle or bracelet with the message, “Speak Out,” says Melissa, who currently lives in Wilkinsburg. “Once they receive the item they should display it publicly or light it at their home, workplace or business so that people can ask questions about it. Be prepared to say that you are encouraging people to speak out against domestic violence and offer them the opportunity to help,” says Nicholl. The decorated candle is only $6.50 and a bracelet is only $3 they both come with a free domestic violence resource guide and 100% of the net proceeds goes to support the cause. How do I get my task list done? Too often we overlook or avoid taking the necessary steps to fix or improve upon our relationships at home, where we stay and where we work. We tell ourselves we will do it next time. Then next time comes and we write ourselves a note and say, "We will get this done." Still, we forget, procrastinate and still don't do it. So how do we get things done? First, don't make promises to yourself, family or friends; instead just make up in your mind you are going to do it and nothing else that day. Second, find a way to remove the distractions, if it means dropping the children off with a family member, friend or childcare provider, you just need to get your goals accomplished for that day. Turn the television and computer off and let the phone go to voicemail. No excuse. Third, whether you have children or not, take a personal day from work. You say, "But they need me." Well if the operation can't function without you for the day then someone should fix the workplace organization chart and maybe that someone should be you! Think of this, if you are in a car accident and laying in a hospital, the boss will find a way to get the job done without you. So take your personal day! By the way, before you turn off the computer to get those tasks done, check out some resources below that may help you with your family and home improvement concerns.
